Hello Heroes,

We're in the final days of March, and as promised, I'm back with our regular month end update. Nothing too amazing or exciting with this one - everything's still in progress - but I do have info about a divergent Scion path that you may have missed before. 

Let's get to it!

Scion: Masks of the Mythos is a sourcebook for Scion: Origin and Scion: Hero. While the majority of Scion focuses on real-world mythologies and religions, Masks of the Mythos is a step off that path into a more fictitious World. The material presented here is as canonical to an ongoing Scion campaign as every individual Storyguide and group wish it to be.

Scion: Dragon builds on the foundation of Scion: Origin, taking the game to the in-between spaces kept dark as the bright light of divinity shines elsewhere. It is a game about playing both sides against the middle as you desperately try to find a foothold in the World, all the while discovering who you are and what you want.

Trinity Continuum: Adventure! is the next edition of the pulp action game Adventure!, originally released in 2001. This new edition features mechanics that are both flexible and fast as well as new Inspired powers. While the setting is quite similar to the original edition’s, it has been newly updated to better fit into the overall Continuum setting and encourage heroic roleplaying.

Good Day, Demigods!

As many of your are aware, Onyx Path recently concluded their amazingly successful crowdfunding campaign for two new books for the Scion Second Edition - Scion: Dragon and Scion: Masks of the Mythos. These books offer a divergent path for your characters:

Scion: Dragon builds on Scion: Origin and introduces the option to become an Heir rather than a Scion, touched by ancient dragons and acting as an agent fighting for a secret history.

Scion: Masks of the Mythos presents an alternate pantheon and options for your Scion: Hero character, exploring alien powers that come with a cost.

If you missed this campaign or were waiting on future circumstances to settle, I should be launching a BackerKit pre-order page for these books in about a month. In theory, I'll be able to note and provide a link in our March 2021 Update.

Before we get into our reward review, I've got a couple actual plays to share with you.

First up, a recent Scion Second Edition single shot game - A Light Extinguished. Always fun to see the Scion game being played!

Victorian Mage provides advice and material for running your Mage: The Ascension 20th Anniversary Edition chronicles amid the tumult of the Victorian era, as the Order of Reason rises to power and the Traditions falter.

Within this book you will also find a details of the state of the great magickal powers in this era: the Order of Reason, preparing for their metamorphosis into the Technocratic Union and riding upon the great beast of Empire; the Council of Nine, now merely eight, caught in infighting and looking for a new peer; and the Crafts, the manifold practices of magick across the world, who fight to save their peoples from conquest and exploitation.

In addition, Victorian Mage includes an examination of life as a magus in the stratified society of Imperial Britain and the wider empire; rules reflecting the difference in how magick works during this age, when the Consensus of the Technocracy has yet to enfold the globe; and a gazetteer of the Victorian world, touching on cultures and conflicts across the globe as empires struggle for dominance and the masses struggle simply to survive.

As with everything in the world of Mage: The Ascension, reality is shifting and you can't expect things to be as they always have been. Welcome to the first update of 2021. We're still in the earliest stages of our post-campaign, so many of these updates will just be me listing all of the projects that are slowly working their way along the project progress path, but it's important that we keep communication constant and consistent so that we're all on the same page.

Lots of rewards coming our way! Right now, our main reward, the Demigod book, is in the Post-Editing Development stage. While that's going on, the Scion team are busy outlining and assigning work on the other supplements that we generated via Stretch Goals. 

But that's not all that's in the works for Scion Second Edition! As we all know, Scion: Demigod is the third book in the standard Scion path, the next step after becoming a Hero.

But what if a different path was open to our characters?

The ancient powers never fully went away. They wander our roads and cities, mingling with the teeming masses of humanity. Characters in Scion Second Edition begin as humans touched by fate, heirs to great powers and incredible destinies. In the core setting for Scion, characters discover they are the children of Gods, inheriting mantles, accomplishing great deeds, and deciding their own destinies. It’s a game about divinity and humanity, and everything in between — and now, with these two expansions, everything beyond as well. Scion: Dragon and Scion: Masks of the Mythos open new pathways, new origins, and new secrets for Scion Second Edition.

But which of these two pathways will you wander down?

Perhaps you aren't the descendant of an ancient deity, but instead have been chosen by a Dragon. The myths about Dragons are true, but not the whole truth. Dragons went into hiding after too many of their numbers were slain for their deeds, and have waited for centuries until they could reclaim The World as their own. They blame the Gods and Titans, along with their worshippers, for their downfall. And they will gain power from the Titanomachy between God and Titan, but from the shadows, without showing their claws.

You carry inside you a dragon, something you don’t fully understand, but need to in order to control. To claim your heritage, you must seek out clues to the truth, embrace the memory your draconic ancestor bestows upon you, and perform missions you might not understand. You are tasked to be the Dragon’s operative in The World, but you set your own destiny.

Discover your heritage, embrace the dragon, and claim your inheritance.

Or perhaps you've been touched by something different, something alien and ancient. The Mythos is older than humanity, Gods, and Titans, with an unknowable otherness that can shatter them all. This slumbering horror lurks in the shadows, carrying out its cold machinations with little regard for those beneath it until it requires pawns.

Those that touch the Mythos are forever awakened. The World explodes into full view for them, empowered by these alien beings that alter their very essence, the ability to break Fate and leave the walls of reality weaker in their wake. These human embodiments of the Mythos are not good or evil; such easily definable morality is for lesser beings.

What does one do when their power comes with a cost?

Scion: Masks of the Mythos and Scion: Dragon are two new entries in the Scion Second Edition RPG line, building on Scion: Origin and Scion: Hero. Each of these books adds entirely new elements to the setting, and explores new territory within the World.

2020 Year End Update

Good day, Demigods!

It's not quite the end of the year (the end of 2020 can't come soon enough!), but I wanted to get this out early so we can maybe have a little bit of quiet time during these year end holidays.

This year has obviously been full of unexpected challenges and difficult times. Our campaign funded just over 2 months ago, but it seems like it's been about a year since then! This year would normally have been mostly about watching the gradual progress on the projects we helped fund, as they slowly work their way to us. This year wasn't normal at all, though, but things have still moved along. I'm hoping 2021 is a much more manageable year, and looking forward to the results of the hard work of the Onyx Path team.

ONYX PATH ON KICKSTARTER IN 2020

To say this year was challenging would be an understatement. Despite difficult, uncertainty, and demanding situations, the Onyx Path team continued to work on the great projects that have made us fans. It wasn't easy - schedules shifted, delays managed, and difficulties dealt with - but here we are at the end of 2020 with some victories to show!

KICKSTARTER PROJECTS FUNDED IN 2020

Kickstarter continues to be an important part of the process for Onyx Path, and looking at the long list of projects in the works on the Monday Meeting Notes blog, it certainly looks like that’ll continue to be the case in 2021.

Rather than just take pre-order for an upcoming project, Kickstarter has allowed Onyx Path to gauge interest in game lines (to see if they should develop additional projects beyond those offered during the campaign), and sometimes even add additional projects to a game line immediately via Stretch Goal achievements. More importantly, it’s a chance to interact with the community and for everyone to get involved from the earliest stages.

I'm certainly hoping to be involved in another Scion Second Edition kickstarter campaign in 2021, and hoping to see many of you in the comments again soon!
