Final Week Review - Add On Rewards
over 3 years ago – Sun, Sep 27, 2020 at 10:40:26 PM

Hello Heroes and Good Day Demigods!

We're in the final week countdown for Scion: Demigod on Kickstarter - it ends on Thursday, October 1st at 2:00 PM EDT - there's still time to recruit additional backers, but we're definitely getting closer to the finish line. With that in mind, I wanted to touch on some of the basics over the next 4 days to make sure that everyone has all of the information they need to support the project in the way that works best for them.

Review topics to cover over these final days:

  • Reward Tiers (See update #25)
  • Add-Ons
  • Stretch Goal Review
  • Final Checklist & Next Steps

Whether you're just starting on your heroic journey or have a long list of mighty deeds to your name, these are good items to review to make sure that we all end up where we want to be.

(An aside, if you're a new backer, make sure you check out the Final Week resource post. It has links to the manuscript previews, actual plays, and podcast interviews and discussions!)

Final Week! Final Week!

Today, I am going to talk about ADD ON reward options. On Thursday, before the campaign finishes I will post an update with a Final Checklist & What Comes Next.

First Step: Reward Tier

The absolute best way to ensure that you're getting all of the available rewards you want from this kickstarter is to ensure you've selected the appropriate Backer Reward Tier, as detailed in our Reward Tier Update. Selecting the right Reward Tier covers about 95% of the options available to you. If you want the PDF only, make sure you've selected the correct reward. If you want the hardcover version, double-check your reward tier to ensure it's featured. If your going digital now but want the option of getting a discounted Print-on-Demand copy later, make sure you've got a reward tier that includes it.

Remember this chart? Of course, it was from yesterday!

Once you've completed that important step, you're going to want to look at the Add On rewards for any reward "bits" that don't automatically fall into your reward tier. That takes us to the Add On step.

Step Two: Add-Ons.

If you've selected one of the "core" Reward Tiers, you've likely already included most of the rewards you want. In addition to the rewards offered as part of the Reward Tier configurations, there are a few other possible rewards you may wish to add. All Add-On rewards will be described below.

Each Add On includes an extra amount to add on to your total pledge amount. Remember that your total pledge amount includes all shipping charges and not just your reward tier level.

I'll use myself as an example here. Whenever a new campaign launches, I usually jump on and back as quickly as possible - this allows me to make comments as a backer, and, you know, I love all this stuff. I typically click the PDF tier because it's near the top and I know for sure I want the PDF reward.

I came late to Scion Second Edition, missing the original kickstarter completely. But once it was made available, I actually grabbed the Print-on-Demand versions of the books for Scion: Origin and Scion: Hero. I think I actually got the first two that were sold!

These are my actual copies!

Despite my enthusiasm for the game, only 1 or 2 other members of my regular gaming squad are into the idea of Scion - or, to be fair, everyone's interested, but only a few of us would prioritize it above some of our other regular games. Initially, I thought it would be a game I could read and enjoy as a PDF, since Scion: Demigod may not get much use at my table.

And then Neall introduced the idea of guidelines for Solo Play and single protagonist/troupe-style play in the Scion: Demigod Companion PDF stretch goals. And... well, suddenly two other members of my gaming group are now really interested.

So, I've decided to bump up my reward to include an option to purchase a discounted Print-on-Demand version of this book, to keep consistent with what I've got and also to keep my options flexible. I also have a few Add On rewards that I'd like to add.

The first step is to change my pledge to the correct reward tier. On my PC, the button I'm looking for is this one:

Let me speak to the manager!

On the mobile app, it's a little sleeker:

And that brings up my current Pledge Tier reward choice and allows me to investigate my options.

I'm going to Change my pledge reward tier. It's that blue button in the corner.

So, it's time to CHANGE MY PLEDGE. On my PC, I select the Change Your Pledge button, while in the mobile app you select the ellipses (...) in the top corner to present options.

I can scroll down or read the kickstarter rewards page to review the list of rewards with my Tier. Since I've decided to ensure I have the discounted Print-on-Demand option included, the Lernaean Hydra seems to be the one I want!

This gets me what I want... from the core reward offerings, at least. I'm going to look at Add On rewards after this.

Once I've selected this reward, it displays the Total Pledge Amount before confirming.

So, my Total includes my Pledge Amount for my reward tier (the minimum is $25 that covers the Lernaean Hydra reward tier) plus shipping if required (no shipping in this case, as it's just the PDF, and the option to order a discounted PoD copy from DriveThruRPG in the future ).

Before I hit confirm, though, I know that there's one more change I want to make. While I mentioned that I have PoD copies of Scion: Origin and Scion: Hero... I don't actually have the PDF versions of those books. And now I want them! Looking at the Add On list (which I'll cover more below), I see that I can add on the Scion: Origin PDF for +$10 and the Scion: Hero PDF for +$15. So, for another +$25, I can add both of those PDFs to my reward list, which would bring my pledge total up to $50.

I just update my total right in the box. Add On options are confirmed in our post-campaign Pledge Manager after the campaign ends.

But, one of my guidelines is to check to see if a Pledge Tier offers me what I want before I work on Add Ons. Now that I know I want the option for a discounted PoD of Scion: Demigod, as well as the PDFs for all three Scion Second Edition books... I pay more attention to the CERYNEAN HIND pledge tier! It offers PDF and discounted PoD options for all three books... at the same total price of $50.

So, considering this, I decide to switch my Pledge reward tier again, to CERYNEAN HIND.

Same pledge total amount, includes everything I want... and more!

Now that I've got that sorted, there's one more Add On I'm looking at. Mysteries of the World, the Scion: Hero Companion PDF that was part of the first campaign! As I said, I missed that original campaign, and only with Scion: Demigod have a few of us been thinking about running this game on the side.  And now that the spark has been lit, I want to feed that fire!

The Mysteries of the World PDF is available as a +$15 Add On option. I double-check to make sure there are no reward tiers that includes this, and figure I'm good to stay with CERYNEAN HIND and then adjust to cover for this Add On reward.

So, I've selected the Reward Tier that works best for me - CERYNEAN HIND - which includes

  •  Scion: Demigod PDF
  •  Scion: Origin PDF
  •  Scion: Hero PDF
  • Discounted Print-on-Demand options for all three books
  • Access to the Manuscript Previews
  • Full Access to the Pledge Manager

And then I adjust my total pledge amount to include additional funding to cover my Add On options:

  • Mysteries of the World PDF +$15

And, this time I'm not pledging for any physical rewards, so my shipping costs are $0. As noted, shipping outside the US has gotten quite expensive, and kickstarter will automatically add on shipping costs at this point.

My total Pledge Amount is $65. Note that this is in US dollars (you can see it's about $87 Canadian, but the final exchange rate will depend on when the payment is processed once we conclude the campaign).

When I've got everything accounted for, I hit continue for one last review.

If it looks good, I click Confirm (or Updated Pledge or Continue, depending on your browser and interface). I'm changing from my initial $20 NEMEAN LION pledge to my final CERYNEAN HIND pledge, plus another +$15 for the Mysteries of the World PDF.

Wow. That was quite a journey! Thanks for coming along with me!

It's important to note that there is NO PLACE in your kickstarter reward tier pledge to indicate which add-ons you wish to include, or give any reason why you are adjusting your pledge to a new amount. You aren't adding items to a shopping cart in this scenario - instead, you're adding pledge dollars that you will assign once the campaign ends. With this in mind, you may want to make a note of which add-on items and the associated add-on dollar amounts you've included if you're forgetful like I am.

About a month after the campaign has ended and Kickstarter has processed your payment, I will send out a survey via Backerkit - a complex system of tools used to manage the back-end of the kickstarter fulfillment process. When you receive the survey, you will confirm your Backer Reward Tier and assign your pledged dollars to any add-on items that you wish to include. I'll repeat and expand on this information in an upcoming post about "What Happens Next?" in Thursday's update.

DIGITAL REWARDS

In addition to the rewards listed in each Reward Tier, backers can increase their overall pledge to add on the following additional rewards. Simply increase your total pledge amount by the value indicated – we will confirm which add on rewards you’ve chosen via BackerKit surveys after the campaign has run (we'll talk about that more on Thursday, before the campaign ends).

Remember to check Pledge Reward Tiers first. Additional PDF copies of Scion: Demigod are already included in the STYMPHALIAN BIRDS and HIPPOLYTA'S BELT multiple copy tiers!

Again, remember to check the Pledge Reward Tiers first if you're thinking about these (like me!) These PDFs are included in the CERYNEAN HIND, CRETAN BULL, and LOOM OF THE MOIRAI reward tiers.

That's the one that got me! Scion: Mysteries of the World presents optional rules and new pantheons, expands upon setting elements and systems, and gives Storyguides and players both a leg up in not only understanding Scion’s particular brand of the Storypath system, but fine-tuning it to meet their table’s needs. You don’t need this book to play a game of Scion, but if you want to explore the World and its many mysteries in more depth, it’s got you covered. This book includes:

  • A system and advice for dialing elements of the game setting up and down to uniquely suit your game;
  • An expansion of cults, crafting, and relics;
  • Three new pantheons — the Loa of Haiti, the Nemetondevos of Gaul, and the Yazata of Persia — as well as the optional Atlantean pantheon, as an example that comes with advice and rules for how to create your own custom Purviews and pantheons;
  • A guide for converting Scion First Edition characters and stories to Second Edition.

If you're looking for inspiration, you can't go wrong grabbing this PDF bundle of First Edition titles. While the rules have changed, good ideas are always good ideas, and this bundle includes Scion: Hero 1st Edition, Scion: Demigod 1st Edition, Scion: God 1st Edition, Scion Companion 1st Edition, Scion Companion 1e Character Sheets, Scion: Ragnarok, Yazata: the Persian Gods, Scion: Extras, Scion: Of Shadows Yet To Come Quickstart, and the adventures Seeds Of Tomorrow and Wolfsheim.

And these three options are ones we talked about back on Update # 12. We know that Onyx Path's Storypath system was kicked off with Scion: Origin, and within that system is where we contest with Fate on our journey toward Apotheosis. But, the Storypath system isn't only used for Scion Second Edition! Onyx Path's house system is used for several of their other game lines as well, bending those rules into new and different configurations. If you've gotten comfortable with Storypath and wanted to explore further within that ecosystem, or you just want to see other interpretations of that same framework, check out these options. Again, Update #12 has complete descriptions for each game. I'm a big fan of all 3 and already have them, otherwise I would have added them on to my pledge!

 PHYSICAL REWARDS

All physical items that will require shipping (additional books, Storyguide screens, deluxe dice) can only be added to reward tiers that already include a hardcover copy of Scion: Demigod (Reward Tiers of $55+). Your rewards will be sent in a single shipment when the book becomes available.

This is the Demigod-specific reference screen that we added to the project list as a Stretch Goal! You can add it to your rewards list for +$20.

For US Residents, you can add to your pledge total to receive the following physical rewards

For those of us who are non-US Residents, our costs are tweaked a bit to cover additional shipping expenses:

And, one more time - remember to check the Pledge Reward Tier to see if your desired rewards are covered first before moving to Add Ons. Additional copies of Scion: Demigod are already included in the STYMPHALIAN BIRDS and HIPPOLYTA'S BELT multiple copy tiers!

Similarly, if you're looking to add the Hardcover + PDF books for Scion: Origin and Scion: Hero, check out the  CRETAN BULL, and LOOM OF THE MOIRAI reward tiers.

REWARD DELIVERY

About a month after the campaign has ended, I'll launch our post-campaign Pledge Manager to collect information from all backers and confirm which rewards you'll be receiving. At this point, you'll also confirm which Add On Rewards you've paid for. Once we have that information, I'll be able to deliver any rewards that are currently available - like the PDF versions of Scion: Origin, Scion: Hero, Scion: Mysteries of the World, the First Edition PDF bundle, and our other Storypath game PDFs  Add On options by sending special redemption links to claim your digital rewards from our partners at DriveThruRPG.com. Clicking these redemption links will allow you to add these PDF titles to your digital library to download anytime.

So, while it will take some time for Scion: Demigod  to move from it's manuscript form to a final product, you won't be waiting a year for PDFs that already exist. (You'll be waiting about 6 weeks or so, just enough time for us to set up the reward infrastructure.)

Physical Books

It's going to take some time to create the PDF for Scion: Demigod and even longer for the eventual print run. When the book is at the printer, I will be in touch with all kickstarter backers and go over lockdown procedures and confirming addresses one final time. But that's a long time away, and we'll cover all of that as we get closer to that part of the process.

Don't fret if you had forgotten to increase your pledge amount to cover an Add On by the end of the campaign. These Add Ons will be available to select in our post-campaign Pledge Manager for those who participated in our campaign and have full access to the Pledge Manager. So, if you are undecided at this time, you will be able to hold off until we're closer to the final reward shipment goes out.

Add Ons AFTER Reward Tiers

Again, your first step should always be choosing the proper reward tier. If I had simply added a the Scion: Origin and Scion: Hero PDFs to the Lernaean Hydra, I'd have paid the same to receive fewer rewards. So, please review your reward pledge tier first and then proceed to add on top of that.

It probably goes without saying that all funds are expressed in US Dollars, although Kickstarter displays the approximate conversion rate.

It Adds Up!

That should explain the process of Selecting your Reward Tier and increasing your TOTAL PLEDGE AMOUNT to account for any additional rewards you wish to receive. Since increasing your pledge amount increases the overall funding level of the project, add-ons can help us achieve our funding target, so it benefits us all to suggest that you double-check to make sure you're getting all of the rewards you want.

Additionally, this may go without saying, please review your personal budget and ensure you've selected the appropriate reward tier and add ons for your current financial situation. Kickstarter will begin charging your payment method once the campaign ends, so ensure you've budgeted correctly.

Conclusion

As we move through these final days of the campaign, please ensure you've chosen the correct Reward Tier for the rewards you want. And beyond that - please make sure you've adjusted your TOTAL PLEDGE AMOUNT to include the additional funds that will cover any add-ons you wish to receive.

On Thursday, just before the campaign ends, I will send an update detailing the steps that occur after the campaign concludes, including how and when to confirm your add-on rewards.

So, just like always: Spread the word! Share your excitement on social media! Tell your friends! We're about to enter the rapid race to the finish line, so let's make sure that none of our friends miss out!

Final Week Review - Reward Tiers
over 3 years ago – Sun, Sep 27, 2020 at 02:13:25 AM

Hello Heroes and Good Day Demigods!

We're in the final week countdown for Scion: Demigod on Kickstarter - it ends on Thursday, October 1st at 2:00 PM EDT - there's still time to recruit additional backers, but we're definitely getting closer to the finish line. With that in mind, I wanted to touch on some of the basics over the next 5 days to make sure that everyone has all of the information they need to support the project in the way that works best for them.

Review topics to cover over these final days:

  • Reward Tiers

Final Week for the Campaign. Final Week for September.

BACKER REWARD TIERS

Like it says right at the top of the campaign page, we've come together to help create a fully developed PDF and traditionally printed game book featuring epic adventures as heroes ascend to immortality - or die trying - with Scion: Demigod, the 3rd rulebook in the Scion Second Edition RPG. To borrow an analogy that I've used in past Kickstarter campaigns, this works similar to the "Viewers Like You" support campaign from your local Public Broadcasting Station (for those who get American television channels or watched Sesame Street in the pre-HBO era): There are various levels of support that you can pledge to, and these come with various levels of rewards offered as a thank you. Like getting a tote bag or t-shirt when you give money to public broadcasting to fund them doing their thing, you can get rewards for helping Onyx Path work on this project.

Let's review the Backer Reward Tiers to ensure that you've pledged to a Reward Tier that provides all the rewards you wish to receive.

Exploring Your Options: Digital Only or Hardcover + PDF

The main reward offered in this campaign is, of course, the main goal of the entire proposition: the Scion: Demigod rulebook. The first decision you need to make in figuring out your reward tier is whether you want to receive a digital PDF version or if you want the hardcover book.

Click to call forth a titanic version of this chart from a mythic realm! (It may take the form of a PDF! Oooh - magic!)

PDF ONLY REWARD TIERS:

  • NEMEAN LION
  • LERNAEAN HYDRA
  • CERYNEAN HIND

These are PDF-only reward tiers. So, if you're saving trees or saving shelf space - or avoiding the shipping charges that seem to be ever-increasing - these are the reward tier options that you should begin with. The PDF will be fulfilled by our partners at DriveThruRPG.com - when it is ready, you will receive a link to add it to your DTRPG library and be able to download at your leisure.

HARDCOVER+PDF REWARD TIERS:

  • ERYMANTHIAN BOAR
  • AUGEAN STABLES
  • CRETAN BULL
  • STYMPHALIAN BIRDS
  • HIPPOLYTA'S BELT
  • MIRRORED AEGIS
  • LOOM OF THE MOIRAI
  • GERYON'S CATTLE
  • HESPERIDE'S APPLES
  • DIVINE MANIFESTATION
  • SHARED MANTLE

These reward tiers include the traditionally-printed hardcover version of this book. That means the books are produced in a larger offset print run at one time, and will have the best production values, from color clarity and appearance to binding and materials. In addition, these options also include the PDF version, so you will get a digital copy as described above.

And, yeah, there's also the DIOMEDES' MARES and CERBERUS Retail Tiers if you're a pre-approved retail backer!

The only Reward Tier that does not include the PDF version of the book is FOLLOWER OF THE GODS tier. You should select this Reward Tier if you want to support the project and maybe participate in the Pledge Manager but do not currently wish to receive either a PDF or hardcover version of the final book.

You'll note that the first two columns - Access to the Manuscript Previews and Pledge Manager - are included in ALL reward tiers. Those are some of the perks of participating in this kickstarter campaign!

MANUSCRIPT PREVIEWS – All Reward Tiers include access to Backers-Only manuscript previews. With the exception of the final chapter and appendix (which will be posted on Tuesday), I have posted the entire manuscript across multiple sections. You must be a kickstarter backer to access these previews, as the link will remain in a backers-only update post. The manuscript previews may not be available to those who pre-order the book at a later date.

PLEDGE MANAGER ACCESS - After the campaign is over we'll launch BackerKit, our post-campaign pledge manager, and invite the backers to set up their rewards via survey. This allows you to confirm your pledge and add on anything that you might have missed, as well as possibly increasing your pledged reward tier, should you choose to expand your reward selection. This option will give international backers additional time to investigate shipping options, should they choose, knowing they can confirm a physical reward at a later date. Funding collected in BackerKit after the campaign does not count toward any campaign Stretch Goals, however.

OPTIONAL "AT COST" PoD VERSION –  For Scion: Demigod, backers who pledge to the LERNAEAN HYDRA tier and higher will have the option of using DriveThruRPG.com’s Print-On-Demand service to purchase a physical, digitally printed copy directly from their PoD partners at as close as we can get to the cost of printing and shipping (this cost is not included in your pledge, and you do not need to increase the cost of your pledge to use this option). When the PoD versions are available to order (which will be some time after the book has gone to print), you will receive links to purchase these versions of the book from DriveThruRPG.com at a specially adjusted cost. You DO NOT need to take advantage of this PoD offer as it does not affect in any way your pledge rewards.

SCION: ORIGIN and SCION: HERO - As noted, Scion: Demigod is the third rulebook for Scion Second Edition, and requires Scion: Origin and Scion: Hero for complete system explanation. The CERYNEAN HIND reward tier includes PDF copies of both these books, while the CRETAN BULL and LOOM OF MOIRAI pledge tiers also include hardcover versions of all three books.

SCION SECOND EDITION ORIGIN/HERO REFERENCE SCREEN and DELUXE DICE - Remaining stock from the original Scion Second Edition kickstarter is limited, but offered as part of two reward tiers: MIRRORED AEGIS and LOOM OF THE MOIRAI. As these items are limited in supply, these reward tiers have limited slots available.

Choosing Your Reward Tier

There has been some churn over this past week - a few Reward Tier adjustments and changes by backers, as budgets changed and people have seen the game in play. In these final days it's best to ensure that you've selected the Reward Tier that offers you the options and rewards you want to receive and are ready to lock down. This timing - before the campaign ends - is the absolute most affordable and inclusive these rewards will be, and will save headaches and heartbreaks if fully considered now.

WAIT! What about special reward tiers?!

Right! In addition to our "core" Reward Tiers, we've got another area for consideration. These are the Premium Rewards.

Again, summon the chart forth from the Underworld. Or a google drive. Something like that.

Multiple Copies

If you are backing for yourself and a friend (or just want a second copy for your collection), the STYMPHALIAN BIRDS Tier was designed for you, with two copies of all rewards included in your pledge. Similarly, if you're the point person for your entire gaming group, you can get five copies with one click by backing at the HIPPOLYTA'S BELT reward tier.

And, if you are a retailer interested in making this available in your store, two special retailer tiers, the DIOMEDES' MARES and CERBERUS pledge tiers are open to you upon prior approval from Onyx Path (please email [email protected] prior to selecting this reward to confirm your status).

As noted on the main page of our campaign, shipping outside the US has gotten quite expensive. Splitting the shipping cost across multiple copies in a single shipment is one way to bring the cost per book down, if you're able to coordinate your backing and delivery with friends.

Premium Reward Tiers

These special reward tiers offer some enhanced interaction with the setting, from submitting a name that will be used for a NPC  worked into the setting, getting an insert signed by as many of the creative team as we can manage, the opportunity to submit reference photos and serve as an art model for an interior illustration, or even the chance to play in an online game with Neall Raemonn Price!

These options are extremely limited. If you were interested in a premium reward tier that is completely accounted for, keep an eye on them during the final days of the campaign, as there is sometimes movement that opens them up as we approach the conclusion.

Check out the Pledge Tier descriptions and Kickstarter Campaign FAQs for more information on these reward tiers and how they'll be handled for this project.

Summary

So, with all of that said - consider your Reward Tier selection. Are you backing to receive your copy of the PDF or hardcover version of Scion: Demigod? Did you jump on one of the limited premium reward options?

Make sure your Reward Tier matches what you're looking for - or, at least, covers most of what you're interested in. On Sunday, we'll cover Add Ons and talk about how to tweak your Reward List to ensure you're getting anything that might be missing from your list.

And, with that, we continue our ascent from the Underworld! Let's lock in our Reward Tiers and keep working towards growing the project so everyone has a chance to join in. DO NOT MISS OUT! And on to our final week and our campaign conclusion!

Antagonists Preview
over 3 years ago – Sat, Sep 26, 2020 at 02:29:49 PM

Hello Heroes!

We've got one final section from the manuscript to post before the campaign ends. Chapter 6 (+ Appendix) will be coming next Tuesday, September 29th. But let's see if we can get a sense of what's coming with a bit of a sneak peek today!

Just grabbing some random things from the manuscript pages on my way to an appointment!

A Random Sampling of Things in Chapter 6

New Antagonist Archetypes

The villains who threaten Demigods are of an entirely different caliber than those who threaten Heroes, much less the ordinary folk of the World. The following Archetypes reflect that difference.

The Cold Hard Numbers

Scion: Origin and Scion: Hero focus on Tier 1 characters, who roll dice against a target number of 8. In Scion: Demigod, however, many enemy characters are Tier 2, meaning their target number is now 7. This seems like a small change, but in terms of statistics, it’s a mammoth difference. That extra 10% chance of a success adds up rapidly, more than doubling the odds of getting 5 successes on ten dice.

Consequently, while it may seem strange, Demigod-scale Antagonists don’t get the very large pools of Monster or Titanspawn Antagonists, who needed a couple fistfuls to dice to reliably hit player characters. This is a problem that Tier 2 Antagonists just don’t have.

New Qualities

The following Qualities reflect the strange and mythic sorts of enemies Demigods frequently encounter. However, any of these Qualities could be used on lower-tier Antagonists to make them seem strange, otherworldly, or otherwise highlight them within the narrative.

Astride the World

Many semi-divine beings possess a sense of power and size wildly out of step with their true shape. They may seem to fill a room despite being no larger than a mortal, so tall that their head scrapes the very vault of the heavens — but nonetheless, they can pass through a normal door like anyone else. Antagonists with this Quality gain Narrative Scale against trivial characters and surroundings. This Quality may be purchased multiple times, each granting a level of Scale.

Immortal-ish

The Antagonist can be killed, but will inevitably return to life, whether by reanimating their body, reincarnating, or whatever method is appropriate. Choose a source of damage (fire, arrows, drowning, etc) that can permanently kill the Antagonist, preferably something thematic such as antivenom for a venomous or otherwise toxic Antagonist.

This Quality does not apply if the Antagonist was slain by a being of greater Tier, or if the Antagonist has completed the Descent Deed of Apotheosis.

Omni-oracular

The Antagonist is gifted with an on-demand prophetic sense; regardless of how she does so, she is able to do it reliably, even in the midst of combat. As long as the Antagonist is able to communicate with her allies, those allies gain a general +2 Enhancement.

New Flairs

The following Flairs represent discrete powers or abilities that are commonly found at the level Demigod characters find themselves. Like the above Qualities, giving these Flairs to lower-tier Antagonists will mark them as particularly unusual.

Shadow-Strike

  • Cost: 1 Tension
  • Duration: Instant
  • Action: Instant
  • Cooldown: The scene ends; or, the Antagonist deals Health damage to a target normally.

The Antagonist can attack others through their shadows, wounds appearing seemingly from nowhere. If the Antagonist uses Shadow-Strike to grapple, Shadow-Strike lasts the duration of the grapple.

Rigfennid

The Fianna, legendary free-roaming bands of warrior-poets, are some of the most respected and feared battle groups in history. Known for rushing into expected defeat and absolute horror yet emerging victorious and glorious, the tradition of the Fianna continues into modern day in The World, with many being some of the most sought-after soldiers of fortune around. A member of a Fiann is known as Fennid and while they are forces to be reckoned with on their own, none can match the strategic genius, ferocious warrior skill, and wonderfully charismatic attraction of the Rigfennid. They are the leaders of the Fianna, each one leading their own Fiann into hell and back, with their Fennid being loyal and devoted to levels unmatched by other warrior bands. Among the ranks of the Rigfennid stand such glorious names such as Fionn mac Cumhaill, the warrior princess Ness, the nefarious druid Cathbad, and many other heroes and figures of legend.

Anyone can become a Rigfennid who proves themselves as being unmatched in battle, bardic performance, and leadership. They come from all sorts of backgrounds and only how great they can prove themselves to be matters and woe be unto any that would challenge an established Rigfennid, especially in front of their Fiann. Many Rigfennid have been Scions, but even those who are not are an unstoppable force and worthy adversary when given their mission or, worse, when they are crossed and betrayed. Legends attest to the brutality of the Rigfennid against their enemies and no divine bloodline is going to protect their target from their cunning and wrath. They’re capable of living off the land with their Fiann for as long as it takes and can survive in near any landscape, so if a Rigfennid is hunting a Scion, there’s few places where they can hide anywhere in The World and many are familiar with Terra Incognita and have divine and magical allies to help them on their hunt.

  • Archetype: Paragon
  • Qualities: Cross-Training, Group Tactics, Honor Bound, Perfected Soldier, Tough as Nails, Willful
  • Flairs: I Have Friends, Inspiration, Invocation, Molon Labe, On Your Feet, Seeing Red, Under Pressure
  • Drive: To have their names echo in legend.
  • Primary Pool (8): Athletics, Combat, Tactics
  • Secondary Pool (6): Leadership, Performance, Survival
  • Desperation Pool: 5
  • Health: 1
  • Defense: 3
  • Initiative: 4
  • Extras: Paragons are Tier 1, and so roll against a target number of 8 rather than 7.

Look for the complete Chapter 6 and Appendix - and therefore, the entire manuscript for Scion: Demigod - to be shared with backers on Tuesday, September 29th!
